Custom home builder on Utah's Wasatch Front

Building a home is the biggest project most families ever take on. Hamblin Homes builds custom homes across Weber, Davis, Salt Lake and Utah Counties, and because we are also roofers and exterior specialists, the parts of the house that keep Utah weather out are built by people who do that work every week.

What is custom home building?

A custom home builder designs and builds a one-off house for a specific owner and lot, rather than repeating a model plan in a subdivision. In Utah, the process typically runs from lot evaluation and design through permits, construction and a final walkthrough, with the builder managing every trade along the way.

What building with Hamblin Homes looks like

  1. Lot walk and feasibilityWe look at your lot (or help you evaluate one you are considering): slope, soils, utilities, setbacks and any HOA or city design rules. This is where surprise costs are cheapest to find.
  2. Design and plansBring your own plans or work from a design you love. We make sure the plan fits the lot, the budget and Utah's code before anything is finalized.
  3. Detailed estimateA line-item budget with allowances spelled out, so you know what is included and where your choices move the number.
  4. Permits and approvalsWe handle the building permit with your city, plus HOA architectural review when there is one.
  5. ConstructionFoundation, framing, roof, exterior, mechanicals and finishes, with regular updates and a single point of contact.
  6. Walkthrough and handoffA final walkthrough together, a punch list we close out, and the documents you need for your records.

Why a builder who roofs matters

Most custom builders subcontract the roof and exterior. We do that work ourselves, every week, on homes that have already been through Utah winters. That experience shapes how we detail valleys, flashing, ice-and-water barrier, ventilation and siding transitions on a new home, which are the details that decide whether a house stays dry twenty years from now.

Common questions

How much does it cost to build a custom home in Utah?

Third-party estimates put Utah custom homes at roughly $280 to $600 per square foot before land and site prep, with basic builder-grade homes lower. Your actual number depends on the lot, size, design and finishes, which is why we give a line-item estimate after walking the lot. See our Utah cost-to-build guide for the breakdown.

Do I need to own a lot before I contact you?

No. Many clients call while they are still deciding on a lot. We can walk a lot with you before you buy it and flag slope, utility or HOA issues that affect the cost to build.

Can you build from plans I already have?

Yes. We review existing plans for fit with your lot, local code and your budget, and recommend changes only where they solve a real problem.

Which areas do you build in?

We build along the Wasatch Front: Weber, Davis, Salt Lake and Utah Counties. See our service areas for the cities we cover.
